ASHP participates in effort to combat antibiotic resistance

Officials from more than 150 food companies, retailers and human and animal health stakeholders attended the recent White House Forum on Antibiotic Stewardship to make public their commitments to making changes over the next five years: to stem the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, find resistant strains, preserve the potency of antibiotics already in use and quell the spread of resistant infections.

Among that group was American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) CEO Paul W. Abramowitz, Pharm.D., Sc.D. (Hon.), FASHP.

ASHP's members are dedicated to collaborating on the development of uniform metrics for the stewardship of antibiotics and to promote education, research and inter-professional team-building and communication to address the problems caused by antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

“ASHP is pleased to contribute to this national effort,” Abramowitz said.
