The North Carolina Board of Pharmacy is preparing for its upcoming board member elections. The board consists of six members, including five actively licensed pharmacists and one public member. Pharmacist members are elected from five geographic areas across the state, while the public member is appointed by the Governor. Each board member serves a five-year term and can serve no more than two consecutive terms.
Eligible voters in these elections are pharmacists who are actively licensed and residing in North Carolina as of October 31 in the year the election begins, according to N.C.G.S. § 90-85.7.
The next election is scheduled to start on November 1, 2025, for the Southeastern district position currently held by Robert (Joey) McLaughlin from Trenton, NC. The successful candidate will begin their term on May 1, 2026. This district encompasses several counties including Beaufort, Bladen, Brunswick, Carteret, Columbus, Craven, Cumberland, Duplin, Greene, Harnett, Hoke, Johnston, Jones, Lenoir, New Hanover, Onslow, Pamlico, Pender, Pitt, Robeson, Sampson, Scotland and Wayne.
To facilitate interest among potential candidates for this position or those interested in board service generally, a candidate interest forum will be held at 7 PM on Tuesday August 5th at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Fayetteville/Fort Bragg. Questions regarding this forum or about NCBOP elections can be directed to Executive Director Jay Campbell or Director of Operations Kristin Moore.
