New Jersey legislators visit compounding pharmacy

Wedgewood Pharmacy, one of the largest compounding pharmacies in the United States, last week welcomed several New Jersey legislators to its compounding pharmacy and office facilities in Swedesboro, New Jersey.

State Senate President Stephen Sweeney, and Assemblymen John Burzichelli and Adam Taliaferr attended the tour of the facilities.

“Wedgewood Pharmacy employs more than 265 people in Southern New Jersey, and serves tens of thousands of physicians, patients, veterinarians, pet owners and their pets throughout the United States,” Lucy Malmberg, CEO of Wedgewood Pharmacy, said. “It’s very important that we show the people who shape the legislation and regulation that can affect our business exactly how we contribute to our community, our pharmacy profession and our clients.”

Wedgewood Pharmacy is a compounding pharmacy that makes customized medications for people and their pets. Compounded medications are prescriptions that are written by physicians, veterinarians and other legally authorized prescribers, and prepared for an individual patient by a specially trained pharmacist.

“Compounding is an integral part of the practice of pharmacy, and the demand for these customized medications increases every year, particularly in our specialty within animal health, ” Marcy Bliss, president of Wedgewood Pharmacy, said.
