Boehringer Ingelheim ranks on Reuters global innovators list

Thomas Reuters recently named research-driven pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim a leader in innovation.

The Germany-based drugmaker was included in the news agency's list of the 2015 Top 100 Global Innovators. Boehringer Ingelheim follows the vision of "value through innovation" and researches and develops therapeutics for both humans and animals.

This year was the first time the family-owned company was featured in the list that Reuters has put out for the past five years. Companies are analyzed based on patent volume, patent application to grant success, the global reach of its inventions and citation influence.

Boehringer Ingelheim, which has R&D sites in the United States and Austria in addition to Germany, is made up of four main business areas: prescription medicines, consumer health care, animal health and biopharmaceuticals. In terms of products, the company focuses its efforts on treating cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, respiratory diseases, diseases affecting the central nervous system and viruses.
