The CVS Health Foundation announced this week that it has donated $550,000 to the Alzheimer’s Association.

The donation will allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide additional education and diagnosis resources to Alzheimer’s patients and those who provide them with care across the country.

With the donation from CVS Health, the Alzheimer’s Association’s goal is to make certain that those who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s have the appropriate amount of resources to understand the disease and receive affordable care and support. With proper outreach services and education programs, health care providers can vastly improve Alzheimer’s patients’ way of life.

In a report published by the Alzheimer’s Association, titled “2015 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures,” it was stated that people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s is expected to climb to more than 5 million currently and surpass 16 million in the year 2050. The estimated cost of care for people who have Alzheimer’s or other dementia-related diseases is $226 billion. That number is expected to exceed $1.1 trillion by 2050.

The CVS Health Foundation has given the Alzheimer’s Association the means to teach health care providers how to diagnose, care for and support these patients.
