The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) has published a guide called "The Pharmacist’s Guide to Antimicrobial Therapy and Stewardship" to assist health care providers in fighting antimicrobial resistance to guarantee that patients are given the best treatments.

The all-encompassing reference guide focuses on infectious diseases (ID) that are encountered most often and what medicines are suitable for treating them. The guide was written for pharmacists, residents in the pharmacy industry and students. It includes information on the best ways to assess and diagnose patients and recommends antimicrobial therapies. Also included in the reference are tables that establish summaries of disease states and specific information on medications. The tables allow readers to compare options for treatment and what is recommended.

"The Pharmacist’s Guide to Antimicrobial Therapy and Stewardship" is divided into five sections. These different sections provide information that will make the evaluation of infected patients easier and determine the source of the infection. The information included in these sections also includes medications that will offer sufficient coverage, specific factors regarding the status of diseases and patients that affect decisions when choosing the right therapies, and antimicrobial stewardship interventions.
