The grants will be a part of CVS Health’s five-year initiative that is aimed to bring about the United States’ first tobacco-free generation. The $50-million initiative is called "Be The First" and helps to expand the company’s commitment to help in creating tobacco-free lifestyles.
The announcement of the new grants was released to coincide with “Kick Butt Day,” a nationwide campaign created by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids that encourages youth to persuade their communities to fight tobacco use. CVS Health, in accordance with their partnership with Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, has donated $5 million to nonprofit organizations over a five-year period that will be used for grants. The nonprofit organizations are committed to the education of the nation’s youth about the dangers of tobacco.
Even though the nation has seen smoking among youths fall to a record low, the use of tobacco products, especially electronic cigarettes, by youths is increasing.
