Paws for Veterans receives nearly $12,000 from APhA

Paws for Veterans received a financial boost from the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) at the 2016 APhA annual meeting and expo.

APhA raised nearly $12,000 to support the organization during its meeting in March. APhA accepted individual donations, contributions from exhibitors and sold student pharmacist T-shirts on behalf of Paws for Veterans. APhA has raised nearly $42,000 total for the non-profit since the partnership began in 2012.

“We are proud to be affiliated with Paws for Veterans and the work they do to help our service veterans," APhA Director of Expositions John Russell said. "I am excited to report that this is the highest amount we have ever collected at a single meeting.”

Paws for Veterans sent posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) service dogs and trainers to the Joint Pharmacy Seminars at the annual meeting to help educate and raise awareness of the value of service dogs for veterans. The 501(c) 3 non-profit trains rescued shelter dogs to provide psychiatric support to veterans suffering from PTSD.

“APhA has been our largest supporter to date," Paws for Veterans Executive Director and Lead Trainer Crystal Ayala said. "We greatly value our partnership and we look forward to the continued growth of our relationship.”
