Allergen today announced its support for a public service announcement (PSA) to help those caring for someone with Alzheimer’s disease that is being launched by the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA).

The PSA features the case of Glen Campbell, a country musical artist who also has the condition, and his wife, Kim. In the announcement, she encourages that those with the condition and those that might be at risk to see their doctor. She also states that in the later stages of the disease, their family had to adapt to the changes brought on by the condition.

"Alzheimer's disease is a progressive, neurodegenerative disorder that is complex, particularly when patients enter the moderate stage of the disease," Allergen Chief Medical Officer Dr. Gavin Corcoran said. "At Allergan, we're proud to support programs that provide more information and offer resources to guide patients and caregivers as they navigate the disease."

Allergan also stated that it plans to launch CaringforAlzheimers.net. This website will serve as a resource for those caring for patients with Alzheimer’s. TThere are approximately 5.1 million people in the U.S. that may suffer from the disease.

"Care and support are how we can make a difference in helping the millions of individuals living with Alzheimer's and for their families," President and CEO of AFA Charles Fuschillo, Jr. said.
