Anthem Blue Cross of California and Valley Radiotherapy Associates Medical Group (VRA) recently announced a single episode-of-care payment agreement for patients who have been diagnosed with breast cancer that will require them to undergo radiation therapy treatment.
All radiation therapy services provided to the breast cancer patients will be covered by the case rate. The agreement between the two organizations provides Anthem with long-term price predictability and VRA with revenue predictability. Also provided will be a better way for Anthem’s members to manage the total cost of radiation therapy services.
“Vantage is helping to lead the way with new payment models for radiation therapy," Dr. Jennifer Malin, VP of Clinical Strategy at Anthem, said. "We hope to build on this approach to provide our members with cancer more options for high-quality, patient-centered, value-based care."
The agreement by Anthem and VRA
is just the first step toward a payment system based on value rather than a
fee-for-service model.
“In our practices, women receive optimal care in a clinically appropriate time period,” Dr. Leslie Botanic, president of VRA and chief medical officer and co-founder of Vantage Oncology in Manhattan Beach, California, said.
