Patients now have help managing complex medication regimes

PharmRight Corp. and Zipit Wireless recently announced their collaboration in a support of PharmRight's Livi medication dispensing system.

Livi stores and dispenses up to 15 solid oral medications in a 90-day supply. The system is designed to monitor the medication remotely. It prompts the patient to take the correct medications at the appropriate intervals.

Zipit Wireless' cloud application works in conjunction with Livi and sends alerts regarding missed doses or refill requests to the designated family member or caregiver. The information is encrypted to prevent unauthorized access to the patient's medication regime.

"Our vision is to empower individuals to live more independently than ever before, while providing next generation tools to enable caregivers to provide better care," PharmRight President and CEO Bill Park said. "The Zipit platform accelerated our time to market and reduced the complexities of bringing a secure, Internet-enabled device to market."

The Zipit platform uses the U.S. cellular network to connect Livi with the Internet. This simple set-up avoids connecting Livi to a home computer network.

"There is no better example of the power of the Internet of Things to solve real world problems than PharmRight's Livi," Zipit Wireless CEO Frank Greer said. "We are excited to be a part of this program and help it come to fruition."
