The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) recently released “The Effective Pharmacy Preceptor,” a reference to assist pharmacists in training students and residents through experiential education techniques.
The publication was created by Mate Soric, Stacey Schneider and Scott Wisneski.
“Although they are routinely called on to supervise and instruct students and residents during experiential rotations, pharmacists often do not have formal training as preceptors and have to sort through numerous sources for guidance,” Soric said. “We believe that “The Effective Pharmacy Preceptor” will serve as an approachable resource for real-world advice as practitioners work to shape future generations of pharmacists.”
The Effective Pharmacy Preceptor collects resources available to preceptors in one publication, compiling concepts into one reference with suggested resources for those with more detailed instructional requirements on a particular topic.
The reference is suitable for preceptors, experiential coordinators and residency program directors. It includes case studies on key concepts and application questions and tips for each chapter and covers topics like assessing practice sites, adjusting rotations to suit different learning styles, developing rotation orientations, expanding experiential offerings and concluding learning experiences.
