CVS Health has earned a spot on DiversityInc's 2017 Top 50 Companies for Diversity.
Ranked No. 50, this is the first time CVS has been on the list, though it was a "Noteworthy" listing in the past.
The reasons for CVS' inclusion on the list include its emphasis on diverse supplier spending: over $1 billion last year. Compared to other companies, CVS also recruited a greater number of Hispanics, African-Americans and women, in addition to strengthening their Employee Resource Groups by 20 percent.
"As a company reinventing health care, we are strongly committed to promoting a diverse workforce and inclusive culture, both of which are keys to producing innovative solutions that improve patient care and health care delivery and sustains top performance for our customers, colleagues and shareholders," CVS Health President and CEO Larry Merlo said.
The list, compiled by DiversityInc, has been released for 16 years; it assesses companies' hiring, retention and promotion for a wide range of people including women, disabled individuals, LGBT and veterans. The 2017 competition included a number of new survey questions, all which pointed to a higher emphasis on analyzing data in a fair approach.
