Fred’s Pharmacy screened over 98,000 people for heart disease and detection during its Heart Disease Awareness and Colorectal Cancer Campaigns, and made a donation of $38,244 to the American Heart Association (AHA) this month.

"More than 11 percent of adults are diagnosed with heart disease every year," Fred's Pharmacy Executive Vice President Tim Leibmann said in a news release. “We're proud to bring much needed awareness of these diseases to our local communities by providing information, free blood pressure screenings and free at-home colon cancer screening kits for our customers.”

Over 27 millions Americans suffer from heart disease. With the help of over 600 Fred’s Pharmacy locations, customers and patients can easily get tested for the disease.

“Since February 2014, the retailer has partnered with the AHA for American Heart Month, donating $1 to the AHA for each blood pressure screening given at pharmacy locations during the month.”

Overall, Fred’s Pharmacy has donated over $130,703 to the American Heart Association for further research.

In addition to showing awareness for heart disease patients, Fred’s Pharmacy showed love to patients with colon cancer, the “second leading cause of cancer deaths.” During its March campaign, over 60,000 patients were screened.

"When it comes to colon cancer, incidence and death rates are higher than the national average in many of our geographic markets.”
