A generic formulation of AstraZeneca’s Nexium medication that delivers time-released doses of the drug to aid acid-reflux sufferers has received FDA approval and should soon be available for purchase.
Long known as “the purple pill,” Nexium is offered in 20 mg and 40 mg time-release format by AstraZeneca. Arthur Bedrosia, Lannett’s CEO, said in a press release that the Lannett Company Inc.’s announcement underscores its ability to develop complex formulations.
"This approval, our seventh thus far in 2017, comes from our wholly owned subsidiary, Kremers Urban Pharmaceuticals,” Bedrosia said in the release. “A number of competitors are currently marketing the product; we anticipate launching ours in the next several months."
In business since 1942, Philadelphia-based Lannett develops generic drugs used to treat pain, high cholesterol and many other conditions.
