Aetna released a fact sheet on Monday that outlines its commitment to health care transparency.

Aetna said it has been a leader in improving and supporting transparency in the health care industry for more than 10 years.

The fact sheet said Aetna was the first insurer to:

• Provide members with personalized estimates for cost of care based on Aetna’s actual negotiated rates with health care providers.
• Provide members with site-specific cost information for hospitals and other facilities.
• Provide members with physician-specific price, clinical quality and efficiency information.

Other Aetna programs that improve transparency include the Aetna Member Payment Estimator and WellMatch, Aetna said.

The Aetna Member Payment Estimator improves transparency for members by providing a more complete, personalized idea of the costs of health care – real out-of-pocket cost estimates based on personal benefit plans.

WellMatch is Aetna’s newest transparency solution innovation. Aetna said the WellMatch Transparency application allows employers to help their employees make more-informed decisions. Through the application, employees can learn about their benefits, access health care information, estimate costs and find providers that have the services they need. WellMatch assists employees in lowering out-of-pocket expenses while improving the health care decision-making process, Aetna said.
