Cigna expands to provide health services to Canadian expatriates
“Navigating the health care landscape of a foreign country can be very challenging for an expatriate employee and their dependents,” Jason McCormick, vice president of international benefits at Cowan Insurance Group, said. “Multi-national employers want their expatriate employees to have a comprehensive health care program so that when they travel their medical needs will be covered.
Cigna is working with Cowan Insurance Group, a Canadian provider of third-party administrator services, on the project.
“With this relationship, Cigna’s insured members who are working in Canada and their dependents, gain access to a significant network of providers from coast to coast that offer direct reimbursement, and tap into cost mitigation opportunities through our innovative tools, relationships and partners,” McCormick said.
Customers will pay no deductible as part of the plan. Services will be provided at discount rates based on local pricing and negotiated discounts with health care professionals in the CignaLinks network.
Health care providers can be found using the search engine on the Cigna Envoy online directory.
Cigna also will provide direct claims settlement for retail pharmacies, vision medical and dental providers throughout Canada. It also will offer Provincial Health Plan Service eligibility and enrollment support in order to simplify the process for receiving health care services in Canada.
