APhA updates immunization handbook

The American Pharmacists Association has published the third edition of APhA’s Immunization Handbook, a reference that provides useful and timely updates for pharmacists and staff involved in pharmacy-based immunization services.

The completely updated,  20-chapter handbook features a step-by-step process for developing and implementing immunization services. It includes complete product information on the majority of vaccines licensed in the United States.

Additional key features of the book include guidelines, tips and resources for creating and sustaining a successful immunization practice; guidance for increasing immunization rates; practical advice for pharmacists, pharmacy managers and owners, pharmacy technicians and student pharmacists involved in vaccine administration; business management guidance ranging from marketing the service to getting paid for the service; and vaccine safety and adverse event management, including recommendations for immuno-compromised and high-risk patients

The book was written by Lauren Angelo, assistant dean of academic affairs and associate professor of pharmacy practice at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in Chicago. She teaches APhA’s Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery certificate training program to pharmacists throughout the United States.
