Benevere receives specialty pharmacy accreditation

Benevere Pharmacy announced on July 2 that URAC, an organization dedicated to healthcare quality though accreditation, has approved Benevere for specialty pharmacy accreditation.

The approval is the third for Benevere, making it the only pharmacy in Tennessee to hold three independent pharmacy services accreditations, from the Accreditation Commission for Health Care, Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board and URAC.

URAC accreditation provides outside validation of excellence in pharmacy management and continuous quality improvement-oriented processes that advance operations and enhance compliance, Benevere said.

Currently, only 76 pharmacies nationwide and 10 in Tennessee hold URAC’s specialty pharmacy accreditation. Accredited pharmacies must meet a range of standards, including regulatory compliance, staff qualifications, consumer protections, patient management and drug management. Benevere began the accreditation process in August 2014.

Specialty pharmacies are full-service pharmacies that fill prescriptions for certain high-cost biotech and injectable medications. Specialty medications help patients with complex conditions, including multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, certain cancers, solid organ transplant and hemophilia.

Benevere Pharmacy, founded in 2012, is a privately owned, independent pharmacy dedicated to servicing the needs of patients, prescribers, healthcare organizations, payers and pharmaceutical manufacturers.
