Allscripts and CoverMyMeds have announced that they are partnering to help patients receive their prescriptions faster and increase the number of health plans available for Allscripts eAuth software clients.

“The more payers, pharmacy benefit managers and health plans we can connect our provider clients to, the more we can help them reduce the cost associated with prior authorizations — improving patient satisfaction and outcomes,” Allscripts President Faisal Mushtaq said. “This long-term partnership provides our clients the capability to transact with a large number of the covered lives in the U.S. for electronic prior authorizations.”

Allscripts eAuth software allows providers to rapidly authorize prescriptions electronically rather than through phone calls or faxes, which can take days or weeks.

Electronic prior authorization (ePA) decreases the cost of authorizing medications prior to dispensation and improves quality of care by allowing patients to obtain medications faster.

“We’re honored that Allscripts chose CoverMyMeds to support its vision of a comprehensive ePA product,” Matt Scantland, co-founder of CoverMyMeds, said. “The partnership is an important milestone for a healthcare system that is increasingly focused on reducing avoidable medical spending due to non-adherence.”

CoverMyMeds is the largest ePA platform in the country; it provides connectivity that impacts as much as 72 percent of prescriptions in the U.S.
