NCPA elects new president, passes policy resolutions

The National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) said Oct. 14 its House of Delegates named a new president and approved policy resolutions to advance patient care and tackle problems affecting businesses at the 2015 NCPA Annual Convention.

Pharmacists approved resolutions about pharmacist collaborations, the value-based reimbursement approach and the transparency of pharmacy benefit managers.

"These resolutions address two areas that are vitally important to independent community pharmacists," NCPA CEO B. Douglas Hoey said. "Tomorrow's health system will put more emphasis on quality of care and patient outcomes. Independent community pharmacists are well positioned to lead that transformation, at times through physician-pharmacist collaborative practice agreements, and should be appropriately reimbursed for their services. In addition, the claw back tactics of PBM (pharmacy benefit management) corporations are out of control. As our country demands more transparency in health care pricing, requiring more disclosure from PBM corporations is a great place to start."

The House of Delegates also named Bradley Arthur as NCPA president. Arthur co-owns Black Rock Pharmacy and Brighton Eggert Pharmacy in Buffalo, New York.

"Brad is a tremendous representative of and asset to NCPA. I'm excited to work with him in his new role," Hoey said. "Born and raised in community pharmacy, Brad's dedication to NCPA members is unmatched. He understands the integral role independent community pharmacists play in patients' lives and will do everything possible to advance their ability to serve patients."
