MinuteClinics open in Springfield CVS stores

Missouri residents will now have access to more MinuteClinics as new locations were recently opened in Springfield.

Three of the retail-based medical clinics have opened in Springfield CVS stores, including one on the edge of the Missouri State University campus. A fourth location is expected to open next month.

MinuteClinics can diagnose and write prescriptions for common illnesses, treat minor injuries, provide vaccinations and offer health screenings for conditions, such as diabetes. The clinics are open seven days a week and into the evening, require no appointments and accept most major health insurances.

Prior to the four new Springfield locations, MinuteClinics were found within 21 CVS stores in Missouri, including Kansas City.

“Targeted expansion into markets like Springfield brings high-quality, convenient and affordable healthcare services to community members,” Andrew Sussman, president of MinuteClinic and executive vice president/associate chief medical officer of CVS Health, said. “We face a significant shortage in primary care providers, an aging Baby Boomer population and the addition of millions of newly insured patients through the Affordable Care Act. By increasing access to care, MinuteClinic can help support the primary care medical home in Missouri.”

MinuteClinic has more than 1,000 walk-in medical clinics in CVS stores across 33 states and the District of Columbia.
