6 ASHP members recognized with service awards

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) presented six of its members with Distinguished Service Awards Monday. 

ASHP is comprised of more 40,000 members, which includes pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. The award honors members whose volunteer efforts have assisted in advancing the pharmacist profession.

Steven Riddle, who has 30 years of experience in the health care industry, was named the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award for the Pharmacy Practice Section of Ambulatory Care Practitioners. Riddle is currently the director of clinical development for Pharmacy OneSource/Wolters Kluwer Health. The company uses both real-time and evidence-based information to improve patient care.

Erin Fox, an expert in drug shortages, was given the Distinguished Service Award for the Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists. Fox serves as director of Drug Information and program director for University of Utah Health Care's PGY2 Drug Information residency. She is also an adjunct associate professor of Pharmacotherapy at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy.

Lynn Eschenbacher, who has presented nationally on numerous topics such as the value pharmacies have in patient care, received the Distinguished Service Award for the Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners. Eschenbacher is the national director of Pharmacy for the Resource Group, which is a subsidiary of Ascension Health. She also serves as an adjunct associate professor at the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy.

Karl Gumpper, a pharmacy informatics manager at Boston Children's Hospital, was the recipient of the Distinguished Award for the Section of Pharmacy Informatics and Technology. Gumpper was the first director of the Section.

Scott Knoer, an advocate of improving policies pertaining to public health and medication safety, was given the Distinguished Award for the Section of Pharmacy Practice Managers. Knoer serves as a chief pharmacy officer at the Cleveland Clinic.

Christina Martin, the ASHP director of membership forums, received the Distinguished Award for New Practitioners Forum. Martin previously served as a pharmacy supervisor at Lancaster General Health.
