Lincoln Pharmaceuticals of India recently announced that their Chloramphenicol Sodium Succinate injection has been banned in Tanzania.

The injection is the company’s top grossing antibiotic. Their registration in Tanzania has also been cancelled, an article in the Business Standard reported.

The Chloramphenicol Sodium Succinate injection is used when combating serious bacterial infections. Lincoln Pharmaceuticals distributes medicines all over Africa, the Chloramphenicol Sodium Succinate injection being chief among the medicines being exported. The Tanzanian Drug Authority has ordered what has recently been received from Lincoln and what remains of the product be destroyed.

As a result, Lincoln Pharmaceuticals’ stock dropped 17.28 percent. The company said that the ban will have a direct effect on its profit margins. Since the ban, a large number of materials have been piling up at the factory. The company has not yet said why its product has been banned by the Tanzanian Drug Authority.
