The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) this week announced its partnership with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to provide an online training course for hospital and critical access hospital (CAH) surveyors.
The mandatory training course consists of
information on pharmaceutical compounding and USP Chapter <797>
standards.
“ASHP is committed to patient safety, and we are proud to help CMS provide this essential training to hospital and CAH surveyors,” ASHP CEO Paul W. Abramowitz said. “ASHP has been the recognized leader in education, training, and best practice on sterile and non-sterile compounding for decades. ASHP’s online interactive education courses will help ensure that hospital surveyors have the training they need to make informed determinations on adherence by health care organizations to CMS sterile compounding requirements.”
The three part course includes two modules in the ASHP Sterile Compounding Competency Library and one module on CMS regulations. Each module requires approximately one hour to complete; the entire course is approximately four to six hours long. The course is intended to help the more than 2,000 CMS surveyors assess compliance to compounding and safe practices requirements in hospitals and other facilities.
