Cigna and Hill Physicians Medical Group of Northern California have announced that the two companies have agreed to enter a care program partnership that will put an emphasis on the improvement of patient health by providing higher quality health care and care coordination services while decreasing the cost.

David Joyner, CEO of Hill Physicians Medical Group said, “We are pleased to be able to partner with Cigna in this worthy endeavor. Our experience demonstrates that when physicians and health plans work together, we can improve coordination of care and clinical outcomes for patients.”

The new joint program was put into effect on July 1 and will aid more than 12,000 individuals that are currently covered by Cigna health plans who receive care from Hill Physicians Medical Group physicians participating in the partnership.

“Our population heath approach, anchored by a value-based reimbursement model that rewards doctors for achieving better results, will help transform health care delivery," Dr. Ken Phenow, senior medical director of Cigna in Northern California, said. "We have four similar arrangements in the Bay Area and this new relationship with Hill Physicians Medical Group is the latest example of Cigna’s commitment to improving quality of care for Northern California residents.”
