Telehealth can be a new frontier for pharmacists, according to the incoming president of American Pharmacists Association, the group reported on its website.
“As pharmacists, we’ve been advocating for a number of things, but I feel telehealth should become a focus for us,” Sandra Leal said, according to the article.
Pharmacists were not included in recent COVID-19 legislation that expanded telehealth services, even though other health care providers such as physical therapists and occupational therapists were, the story said. Leal believes pharmacists should lobby to be included in future telehealth legislation.
“Although pharmacists are not one of the listed providers, it doesn’t mean you can’t use telehealth,” Leal said. “In fact, it might mean a state opportunity or an opportunity with a commercial payer. Don’t feel like you are restricted, but maybe look at those opportunities to continue to advocate for your role.”
