The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) has announced extended hours this Saturday to assist residents with obtaining birth certificates ahead of the May 7 deadline for obtaining a REAL ID.
In response to a surge in demand for birth certificates, which are necessary for acquiring a REAL ID, several Local Health Units (LHUs) and the main vital records office will open on Saturday, April 26. The extended hours will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the ADH Main Office, Vital Records, located at 4815 West Markham, Little Rock.
To obtain a birth certificate, individuals must present a valid driver's license and be ready to pay a $12 fee, which can be made via cash, check, or credit card—provided the cardholder's name matches the request.
A spokesperson stated, "These extended hours aim to ease the application process and ensure Arkansans have access to the documents they need before the federal REAL ID deadline."
