The North Carolina Board of Pharmacy is preparing for its upcoming election for the southeastern district position. The election, which will begin on November 1, 2025, will determine who will fill the seat currently held by Robert "Joey" McLaughlin. The elected candidate will start their term on May 1, 2026.

The board consists of six members: five actively licensed pharmacists and one public member appointed by the Governor. Each pharmacist member represents a different geographic area in the state and serves a five-year term, with a maximum of two consecutive terms allowed.

Candidates for the southeastern district position include Wesley Hickman from Leland, NC, and incumbent Robert "Joey" McLaughlin Jr. from Trenton, NC. Both candidates submitted their petitions by the October 1 deadline to appear on the ballot.

Eligible voters are pharmacists who are actively licensed and residing in North Carolina as of October 31 in the year of the election. Voting takes place during the annual license renewal period from November 1 through March 1. Pharmacists can access candidate information and cast their votes electronically via their profile on the Licensure Gateway.

Questions regarding the election process can be directed to Jay Campbell, executive director of the board, or Kristin Moore, director of operations.
