PCCA has announced a partnership with Pillumina, a company focused on sustainable pharmacy packaging, to introduce aluminum pill bottles for compounding pharmacies. This initiative aims to provide PCCA’s member pharmacies with an alternative to traditional plastic pill bottles and caps that is both durable and fully recyclable.

“We’ve partnered with Pillumina to help compounding pharmacists accelerate their sustainability goals while advocating for patient care,” said PCCA CEO Gus Bassani, PharmD. “By switching to aluminum pill bottles, pharmacies signal to their communities that their practices are modern, responsible and prepared for the future.”

The collaboration targets compounding pharmacies looking for environmentally friendly packaging solutions. Peter Daheb, co-founder and CEO of Pillumina, emphasized the joint effort toward sustainability in the industry. “By combining Pillumina’s infinitely recyclable aluminum prescription bottles with PCCA’s expansive pharmacy member community, we are laying the foundation for long-term impact,” said Daheb. “Together, we’re dedicated to reducing plastic waste in our communities, microplastics in our bodies, and advancing a more sustainable future for healthcare.”

PCCA will offer the new aluminum bottle in several sizes and colors along with three cap options. Pharmacies can order these products through PCCA’s distribution channels.

Pillumina seeks to address environmental concerns related to the billions of plastic prescription pill bottles discarded annually by providing an innovative aluminum alternative.

PCCA serves over 3,000 pharmacy members across multiple countries including the United States, Canada, and Australia. The organization supplies products as well as education and support services for independent compounding pharmacies and health systems.
