The California State Board of Pharmacy announced that servicemembers or their spouses who hold a valid license in good standing from another state are authorized to practice in California within the same profession or vocation if they are required to relocate due to military orders, according to a recent update.

The federal Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) allows these individuals to use their qualifying out-of-state licenses as valid in California. The announcement highlights that Business and Professions Code section 115.10 establishes a state registration process designed to help identify those lawfully practicing in California under the SCRA.

Pharmacists are reminded that they may fill prescriptions written by prescribers who are not licensed in California but are licensed in another state and practicing in California under the SCRA. To verify whether a prescriber is registered to practice, individuals can consult the Professional License Portability and State Registration List for Servicemembers and Their Spouses.

Additional information, including links to the Department of Consumer Affairs’ dedicated site on federal license portability and state registration, is available on the Department’s Resources for Members of the United States Armed Forces webpage, according to the official roster page.
