The International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) announced on Apr. 2 the release of a new toolkit designed to guide the implementation or expansion of pharmacy-based vaccination programs.

This initiative aims to help pharmacists and healthcare organizations improve access to vaccines by providing clear strategies and policy recommendations for pharmacy settings.

According to FIP, the toolkit outlines important elements for successful vaccination programs, including comprehensive training for pharmacists, proper vaccine storage and handling procedures, and detailed policies and operating procedures. The organization said these components are essential in ensuring safe and effective delivery of vaccines through pharmacies.

Alongside the toolkit, FIP has also published the Global Pharmacy-Based Vaccination Policy Framework: A Guide for Pharmacists. This guide offers further insights into how pharmacist-led vaccination can be incorporated into public health systems and aligned with broader health objectives.

By providing these resources, FIP seeks to empower pharmacists worldwide to play a greater role in immunization efforts. The materials are intended as practical guides for countries looking to start or strengthen their pharmacy-based vaccination services.
