The National Community Pharmacists Association announced the opening of its first media studio at its Alexandria, Virginia headquarters on April 2. The organization said the new facility will allow it to produce more content tailored to the interests of its members.

The addition of a dedicated studio is significant for NCPA as it seeks to keep up with changing trends in how people consume information. CEO B. Douglas Hoey said, “This studio will allow us to meet our members where they are. That's what NCPA is all about.” He added, “NCPA members consume media in a variety of ways and the studio allows us to produce content specific to the varied interests of NCPA membership.”

A major beneficiary of the new facility will be Independent Rx Forum, an NCPA podcast that began in 2021 as a monthly series but now produces two episodes per week. Hoey said, “The demand for content very quickly outpaced the monthly production schedule. Now, we produce two episodes per week, because there is a steady stream of information that our members need. The way people are consuming media has changed dramatically, and the podcast is just one of the ways we are keeping up with those changes.”

The upgraded studio also brings video capabilities to Independent Rx Forum for the first time. Hoey said, “The video element is very important especially for younger audiences,” noting that more short videos can now be produced for social media platforms where many NCPA members spend their time.

Independent Rx Forum is hosted by pharmacist and former NCPA Senior Director John Beckner; this year Sam Manas and Brooklyn Morgan will join as new hosts.

Founded in 1898, NCPA represents over 18,900 pharmacies employing more than 235,000 individuals nationwide.
