The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs announced on May 18 the release of a new Consumer Guide to Home Improvement Projects, aiming to assist homeowners in navigating construction and remodeling work.
The guide is intended to help Michigan residents protect their investments when undertaking home improvement projects. It offers practical advice for selecting contractors, understanding contracts, identifying signs of fraud, and following the permitting process.
Andrew Brisbo, Director of the Bureau of Construction Codes, said, “Home improvement projects can be a major investment, and consumers deserve the tools to protect themselves from fraud, delays, and unexpected costs. This guide gives Michigan homeowners practical information they can use to confidently hire contractors, understand the permitting process, and make informed decisions before work begins.”
According to the announcement from LARA in partnership with the National Association of State Contractors Licensing Agencies (NASCLA), the 13-page resource aims to clarify rights and responsibilities for consumers as they manage home projects.
Michigan residents are encouraged by LARA officials to download the Consumer Guide to Home Improvement Projects for reference during any construction or remodeling activity.
As more homeowners consider upgrades or repairs this season, state officials say resources like this guide may help reduce risks related to contractor selection or project management.
